Preparation of Monodisperse Micrometer-Size Polystyrene Microspheres

Monodisperse micrometer-size polystyrene microspheres were prepared by dispersion polymerization with ethanol/isopropyl alcohol as the dispersion medium,polyvinylpyrrolidone（PVPK-30） as the stabilizer,lactic acid as the co-stabilizer and dibenzoyl perxide as the initiator.The size of polystyrene mircospheres is uniform and the size range is from 2.22um-4.15um.Effect of the ethanol/isopropyl alcohol ratio,PVPK-30,lactic acid,BPO and monomer concentration on particle size and size distribution was studied and the reaction conditions of them were obtained for preparing uniform polystyrene microspheres.And by DSC analysis,the glass transition temperature of polystyrene microspheres is 99 ℃.
